Re: [Cal_Boats] JEMA Cal 21ft 1972 Hull 222 [3 Attachments]
Well, she does look like she has not seen any TLC for a long time. One
problem with the CAL 21 (and maybe all CALs of that vintage, is that they
do not take kindly to neglect, especially water collecting inside.
A few observations; 1) the compression post under the mast is not stock,
original was aluminum pipe welded to a flange top and bottom. 2) not sure
why there is a spacer under the mast step/hinge, and the tabernacle/hinge
is not original (Maybe lower end of mast was corroded and the spacer
makes up for what needed to be cut off?) 3) there is a small part of the
main bulkhead missing, not big..... but that section to the left of the
keel trunk should be a step, about 3" above the bilge at the keel trunk.
Would love to see more pics, but I would not consider this boat "too far
gone", although I'd estimate need for a lot of replacement plywood.
Oh, and I do not think she is a 1972 model, if the hull# really is "222",
then she was built in early 1970 at the Marlboro, NJ Jensen Marine
Factory (I know because our boat, delivered in March 1970, was hull# 285
and all boats with an even number as the first digit in the hull# are
"East Coast" factory built)

Was given his boat and I am wondering if it is worth my time to redo all
the wood damaged? It seems like a lot of work but am I in over my head.
Here are some pics. I do have plenty more pics. Let me know what you guys
think.
