Merry Christmas
Neil McBride2005-12-18 18:59
My wife, Sharon, and I would like to wish you all a very Merry
Christmas and a prosperous New Year. May your sails always draw fair
winds. We hope to go out sailing on New Years day, start something
new and see how many New Years day sails we can do. I've done the
Polar Bear swim, had a snow bath in the snow 450 miles from the North
Pole, so sailing on New Years day shouldn't be such a hard thing. At
least the water doesn't freeze in this part of the world.

I've spent a number of very pleasant New Year's Days at Catalina
Island, benefiting from a benign climate.

I too would like to extend you all a very Merry Christmas. This is an enjoyable list to be part of - thank you for your insight into the wonderful world of Cals.
I, along with my regular crew will be partaking in our regular New Year's Day sail. We'll be making a special sail on winter solstice as well by commuting to work under sail power that day. The hope is that this'll set us up well in the eyes of the sailing gods for the year to come.
Happy New Year too -

I dont know why I never thought to spend new years on Catalina. I
think that is a grand idea and I am going to do it.

Thanks, all, and a Merry Ho Ho to everyone on the list as well.
Also, a Happy Hee Hee.
I'll share my NY wishes and add a little wisdom I've acheived along the way.
I, too, hope for some sailing on NYD but will be ever in observance of Honour's Law:
"Never go sailing when the windspeed and the temperature are the same number."
Three's just no good combination, there. 0-0 nope. 10-10 not likely. 20-20 you gotta be kidding, I'm out there for fun, not to write books. 30-30 not in this life. 40-40 no picnic either. 50-50? maybe someone elses cup of tea, I'll watch the video. 60-60 still too cold and getting pretty freakin breezy. 70-70 starting to get warmer but lost my toupee. 80-80 Now that's warm, but who took the rig?
Actually, I strive to never even get CLOSE to breaking Honour's Law.....
Ho Ho, Hee Hee.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
T'was the night before Christmas, I swung on the hook
With snowflakes a'landing, asleep with my book
When up on the deck I heard footsteps and stuff
"I've been boarded!" I thought, and I tried to be tough
Then down the companionway hatch came a dude
He was dressed like a nut and I thought, "I'm so screwed"
But he laughed and he hummed as he surveyed my junk
So I figured he must be the resident drunk
His eyes were lit up like a junkie on speed
But he gave me a whole bunch of stuff that I need
Like rum and cigars and new charts and a dinghy
And some kind of fancy electrical thingy
I knew it was stolen but I wasn't telling
I just hoped he was giving and wasn't just selling
And I poured him a grog which he downed with a wink
Then I poured one for me (Lord I needed a drink!)
Then he staggered above to the dark snowy night
As I peeked I beheld an incredible sight
Eight tiny dolphins and a beautiful sleigh
And the dude hopped aboard and prepared to make way
The dolphins were ready to power the sled
But the guy raised a genny and mains'l instead
With a burp and a chuckle he gathered the breeze
And called to the dolphins, now swimming with ease
"Hey Stalker and FEMA and Cancer and Nixon!
On Stinky and Pepper Spray, Mason, and Dixon!
Or whatever your names are, you cute little fishes,
Here's to every last sailor, my best Christmas wishes!"
As he sailed away leaving a wobbly wake
I hoped he had not many stops left to make
He got close to shore and he soon was aground
But the dolphins proceeded to pull him around
And I heard him exclaim as he sailed out of sight
Happy Christmas to all... and to all a goodnight"

Steve... "Honour's Law" is absolutely GREAT !!! Not much of a problem here in SoCal, but still VERY funny.
I had to send it along (giving you full credit) to everyone I know who has even a slight interest in sailing.
Great !!

Thank you. That came from a regatta we used to do in November which has been discontinued. Many hours sitting on the rail in the cold fronts led to Honour's Law.

Great Christmas poem! Loved it and will pass on at our
next Club Mud meeting at The BSH on Bayou Chico.
Thanks to Alfred Poor for the "Cal Rules/GOBR"
koozies, am passing two on to our friends/neighbors
Richard and Charlie Birge, who have a Cal Cruising 46
also. This spring we plan on a Cal Cruising 46 Gulf
Coast rendezvous in one of the local anchorages around
Pensacola. Rex Wyse's 46 survived Wilma at Lake
Charles with only some scratches, so we hope he will
be able to attend. Think about that, three of the
eighteen original Cal 46's all rafted up. We will keep
all posted and all Cal boats are invited.
Seasons Greetings,
Tom and Bobbie Vandiver, SATORI, Cal Crusing 46 hull #3
