Chris, here in Southern New England we had a mostly mild Winter..... some snow, but some very warm days too. The last 3 weeks have been frustrating! Saturday, February 25 was around 70deg and sunny, and I had a USCGAUX event that kept me from working on my boat. Last Saturday, March 4, it was 25deg! The sun was out, but couldn't really work on the boats, even inside the garage. This Saturday looks like 22deg and we may get snow on Friday. Both of the past weeks have been relatively mild during the work week....... then COLD on Saturday! My Dad had asked me to help him with some yard work at our cottage (where my boat is stored) last Saturday, but it was too cold to do it...... we figured we'd do it this Saturday....... doesn't look like that will work out. Funny part is, you know the old joke, "What do you call the first sunny, warm day after 2 days of rain/snow?" "Monday!"........ Well, during my brief career detour through retail, when I had to work every Saturday (and alternate Sunday afternoons) and had Mondays off, it seemed like the reverse of that, I kept asking "What do you call the first rainy day after 2 beautiful sunny days?" "Monday!" I just can't win! The single feed line from the 4:1 arrangement then exits to the deck organizer and back to a cam cleat on the cabin top at the cockpit. I can adjust the outhaul from the driving position. Looks like this. Lots of blocks, but has not caused me problems, and I can see/get to the whole arrangement. Thank you, Charlie, for a nice photo of a boat floating in water with sunshine. Plus, we get a view of a real Cal ribbed sliding hatch cover, a familiar sight. Our winter has been so strange here, radically warm for extended stretches then back to cold again. We're going from mid 50s to a high of 20 tomorrow, all within 7 days. That has been going on for over a month. I normally like my winter season but this one has been entirely undependable. And I've only had to clear the snow off the Cal 20's winter cover two times. If the winter is going to wimp out on us, then I'm ready for spring. I read last year that the un-even winter weather is caused by oscillations caused by the break down of the normal route of the jet stream, all cause by global unmentionable and other deplorable things. The National Academy of Sciences was established by Abraham Lincoln, a forward thinking President if there ever was one, and our first Republican president. https://www.nap.edu/catalog/18730/climate-change-evidence-and-causes On Thursday, March 9, 2017 11:19 PM, "rj… [at] juno.com [Cal_Boats]" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: Chris, here in Southern New England we had a mostly mild Winter..... some snow, but some very warm days too. I rode the bike to work this a.m. in 16 deg. F. It will be upper-teens tomorrow, Sat., but because all the snow melted during our tropical period, there aren't any outdoor winter activities to do. The worst of all worlds. Chris >

It seems to me that we've had three great presidents: Washington, Lincoln, and FDR. Washington, because he took an extraordinarily long view, looking forward, and he resisted the accumulation and trappings of power. Lincoln, because he was at the confluence of huge national passions and forces, and somehow he wove a path through it all by virtue of his intelligence and human sympathy. FDR, because he also came along a ar time of great national challenge and was the ultimate pragmatist, trying things to see what worked, all the while maintaining that wonderful infectious optimism that we need to get through hard times. All three were very bright people. We have had other bright presidents, and a bunch less so. But those three confronted the issues of their time unusually successfully. In the news yesterday, the new EPA head said he does not think that carbon dioxide levels affect climate. Chris Campbell
