how to avoid frying an alternator

We have an alternator problem. It is likely that I or she or both mistakenly turned off the engine battery switch while the engine was running. this switch is not a make-before-break switch. My battery control panel is Blue Sea 8080. How do I instal a circuit to protect the alternator if the mistake happens in the future?

Research the "zap stop". This is a diode that wires externally to your alternator and is supposed to prevent damage caused by turning off the battery switch while the engine is running.
