Rudder Post/Cockpit Attachment Cal 2-29
So, I wanted to ask advice before starting into a repair.
My Cal 2-29's rudder post was glassed to the bottom of the cockpit with a small fiberglass collar. A few years ago that attachment delaminated, leaving the post to tilt from side to side and making the steerage have a good bit of play in it. This happened while in the far bahamas so the repair i managed was installing an aluminum collar to take the place of the fiberglass one, two plates holding the smaller fiberglass collar in place. Well, two years of that fiberglass collar rubbing against the aluminum and now I have the same problem again.
I've done some temporary repairs to hold it on the sail I've been on, but I'm about to glass the collar back into the bottom of the cockpit, as it was originally, and remove the aluminum plates.
Anyone have this kind of problem before? Any advice? Sound like it makes sense?
Thanks
