Thanks Reggie.
Prep work was pretty much remove all the fittings, bow roller, ladder, etc. We filled the old exhaust and bilge pump thru hulls in the transom and moved them to the port side. Sand everything with 80 grit, fair any dings with 3M fairing compound and sand until smooth.
Berkeley Marine Center (Berkeley, CA) sprayed the topsides with Awlcraft primer, we then sanded with 320 and they sprayed on the Medium Gray. I had them lay out the accent stripes as it is a skill I do not posses.
Bottom paint is SeaHawk Tropicoat in black.
My wife deserves all the credit for the sanding though. She spent about 50-60 hours sanding it all smooth.

She is amazing that way. Once I showed her how to work with fiberglass, she rarely let's me do it any longer. In fact other than working on the engine or doing some welding, I pretty much have to ask her permission to do any painting or fabrication work now.

I actually found the wife in the Yellow Pages. The winery I was working at was throwing a party and, at the time, she was renting margarita machines. The res (as they say) was history.

Paint Scheme with Black Bottom and light grey topsides? Sounds very Navy. Excellent. Don't forget the big white letters on the bow, and appropriate boat name (heh heh) for a naval vessel. Or not! Oh yes, and deck gun(s), torpedoes, and missile launchers. I'm still keen to put a 3 lb'der swivel gun on my foredeck, and twin 50 calibur machine guns on the poop deck, but, one 3000 lb WWII era torpedo on each side deck, when my boat only displaces 3000 lb. may sink her, that, and the rows of depth charges on the aft deck to sink enemy subs. Then I'll have to get sonar...but...I don't even have a depth finder!. Maybe I can just 3-D print all this stuff so it's proportionally sized. Dream on
Shpritz, the "Coalition Warship" so secret that Homeland Defense hasn't a clue.

Greg,
Looks great!
How about the deck and cabin? Did you already have those
painted?
Looks like your toe rail was replaced with aluminum. Was
that at the
same time as the deck paint?
Mine sorely needs the hull deck joint resealed and the
deck and
cabin painted.
I've had the bottom painted at Berkley MC a few
years ago, but am
thinking that maybe KKMI would be a good option for the
deck paint.
BMC is certainly more convenient, a long walk from my
slip.

Thanks Reggie.
Prep work was pretty much remove all the
fittings,
bow roller, ladder, etc. We filled the old
exhaust and
bilge pump thru hulls in the transom and
moved them to
the port side. Sand everything with 80
grit, fair any
dings with 3M fairing compound and sand
until smooth.
Berkeley Marine Center
(Berkeley, CA)
sprayed the topsides with Awlcraft primer,
we then
sanded with 320 and they sprayed on the
Medium Gray. I
had them lay out the accent stripes as it is
a skill I
do not posses.
Bottom paint is SeaHawk
Tropicoat in black.
My wife deserves all the credit
for the
sanding though. She spent about 50-60
hours sanding it
all smooth.

Just
thought I
would share
a photo of
the new
paint
scheme. We did
the prep
work and the
yard
sprayed the
paint.
Enjoy

Or as one of the guys at the yard said "Oakland Raiders". I like the idea of idea of the deck gun.

Dream on

Stan What would you say is the height of the cabin in the cal39

Carlos,
The brochure says 6' 4". There are areas that have that much, even a
little more. Other places have less (the doorway to the forward cabin),
but more than 6'.
