Puffin has radar

Finally have the radar mounted. Still need to route and connect a couple of wires for the NMEA-2000 network and radar, but most of the hard work is done. Leslie Puffin Cal 33-2

You have radar? Way kuel!. Does it work with AIM-7's? (Sparrow missiles). What with all those pirate attacks, no one should be without. There was a pirate attack on a boat we were listening to on Channel 71 last Tuesday, and the Coast Guard was rushing to the rescue. I don't know it they got to them in time. The pirates were shooting at the wheelhouse of the ship. The Coastguard was telling them to take evasive action, and man the hoses if they tried to board. Congrats on the radar mounting, Leslie. When I first read the title of the message, I thought it was a couple spies exchanging code words. Jerry, I do not believe that this is a phased-array radar suitable of the AIMs. I think the phased-array rig on the Ticonderoga class cruisers cost about $200M a pop. But just imagine. Up to 256 independent targets. You could take out a bunch of sea gulls in addition to drones and bad guy aircraft. Thanks Charlie, This was something I've wanted for years. Been caught in the fog a few times and some storms. Have sailed at night often and figure this will help keep Puffin out of trouble. Plus it's more fun stuff for me to play with. Having the mount already there is more than half the battle and a big money savings. It took me a full (long) day working alone getting the mount attached and radar dome attached. Charlie,Then there's the really kuel radar on the P-3 Orion. We were told you could focus it on a suspected ammunition dump and cause it to blow to kingdom come. If you had one aboard, I bet you could trigger the explosives in their grenade launcher. Only problem is, would it first trigger the firing mechanism to launch it while they were aiming it at you? This is where building a protective anti-matter force field generator would be useful as a next boat-project. But I wonder, how big a battery bank is it going to take to power all these goodies? It might turn your sailboat into a submarine.Jerry of Shpritz. One of my Sailing club mates was a P-2V and Seaplane pilot in the Navy. Going thru NAS Pensacola-The Annapolis of the Air, he had to practice life saving skills in the pool with another classmate. Luckily he found the only one other classmate who was willing to be his team mate. Such was life for a bright young patriotic brave college graduate in 1957 if you had Sub-Saharan African ancestry.I met a P-3 pilot, a member of the Redondo Beach Y.C., who was on a night mission in the Mekong Delta whose life was saved when the pilot of a trailing plane in a section of MIGs sent up to shoot him down forgot to turn of his navigation lights. He saw him coming and was able to take evasive action by hiding in a cloud layer.Jerry of Shpritz On Tuesday, May 9, 2017 10:15 PM, "'TomDressler' tb… [at] verizon.net [Cal_Boats]" <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: Wow!I cannot recall hearing the P-3 mentioned outside of its context and then referencing a VR or VP squadron. We knew those things by sound! My father, Captain Joseph A.
