Kvh sailcomp

Over the last few weeks I have noticed that my digital compass will have flickering display while the engine is running. This does not happen all of the time and never sofar while under sail. My other instrument a raymarine i50 tridata works fine. Any ideas?? John B Cal 227 #650

I had some electronics resetting caused by noise on the ignition line on my Gray Marine gas engine. The solution was a special condenser made for noise suppression. I can't recall the part number although it might be RC-1 unless that is the part number for the one in the distributor. I think I put it on the ignition coil input lead and from there to ground. I am going to my boat tomorrow and if I remember, I can check the details. Let me know if you are interested. If you don't have a gas engine, this won't help. Check for insulation wearing off the wires, maybe slight arcing in loops? You might be able to put a capacitor across the power line for the device (maybe a couple microfarads depending on current draw of the compass). Don’t know how hard this might be given the various connectors, but maybe at the power panel. . Another possibility is fatter wiring on that line, and maybe shielded or twisted pair wire. This is the sort of thing that can require some experimentation. I enjoy screwing around with electronics. Clean all grounds ...take digital temp In fra red. Look at alt. Lead..trace Wire harness to compass though The switch check all butt splices The temp should "bounce " As you cross a compromised Conection ..the engine vibration And corrosion will make compass Light flicker as over charging.. But start with basics..
