'74 Cal 2-29 for salve (Napa Valley)

Alex Kunadze2017-09-01 03:58 UTC
Hi folks, It is with a heavy heart that I finally have to put up my Cal 2-29 for sale. I bought it in the fall of 2012 and enjoyed putting around SF Bay area for the next 6 months, including completing the Three Bridges Fiasco single-handed race. Unfortunately, at that point I had to move back to Canada, so I parked the boat on the hard at Napa Valley marina hoping that I would either return to SF, or bring the boat up north. Well, now I'm finally on the west coast of Canada, in Victoria BC, but the cost of bringing the boat up there is just too much, so I have no choice but to let it go. I should've listened to the wiser heads advising me to sell the boat back then, but, well, hindsight is 20/20. The boat was in decent shape when I parked it. Older, but serviceable, sails (main, jib, 150 Genoa, 130 Genoa, spinnaker), all hank-on. Beta 20hp diesel. Self-tailers for the jib. All lines led to the cockpit. Garmin 4" GPS. Tiller pilot. Standing rigging was reportedly replaced by the previous owner around 2010. Decks were solid, not soft spots. It was easy to manage for a green sailor and a joy to sail. I have a survey that was done at the time of purchase, please email me if you'd like to see it. I'm in Canada, so I won't be able to show the boat. However, if you're interested in seeing it, a visit can be arranged with Napa Valley marina. So, please make me a reasonable offer. I would really like to see that boat back in the water. Cheers, Alex.

Is this a good time of year to sail your boat up North? Just a thought, as the Fall is a time of lightening winds and calmer weather...before chances of Santana conditions, down here, at least. I guess it would be, but the boat needs work to be truly safe in the open water and the skipper is much too green behind the ears for that kind of journey. That said, if someone wants to take a shot at sailing her up to Victoria, I'd be very interested to talk about it.
