Digital multi control panel: current limit?

Bart van Halteren2017-10-28 01:40 UTC
Hi all, the attached Victor energy multi control unit's switch on the right, setting the current limit, now set at 5, is a bit alien to me. What is this? And how much should it be? Of course I tried googling but it's a bit abracadabra to me and no one really saus what the limit should be. And it's limiting what? I can set it but I have no idea what and to how much. Thanks! Bart (Ps, I might be pushing my luck with so many questions...)

Try looking through this list to see if you can find your manual: https://www.victronenergy.com/old_manuals#inverterchargers -Doug > On Oct 27, 2017, at 9:40 PM, Bart van Halteren b_… [at] outlook.com [Cal_Boats] <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: > > [Attachment(s) from Bart van Halteren included below] > Hi all, the attached Victor energy multi control unit's switch on the right, setting the current limit, now set at 5, is a bit alien to me. > > > What is this? I'm thinking that that current limit might be the AC out amperage. 5Amps would be for a 500 VA invertor. With efficiencies included, that would be about 60 amps 12VDC input. Ok. Mine is 2000 and 80 Amp. So I guess I can go a bit higher than 5.... Well, Bart, I hope that web site does it for you. An 80 amp DC in would barely give you 1000 VA (watts) out for 12VDC. 2000 may be a spike value. Is there any control/switch that allows for selection of 12, 28, 48 VDC input? Or 115, 230 VAC out? Have a friend who bought a British Oyster Lightwave 48 that was wired for 230 VAC. Oyster did not rewire the boats for 115 US sales. Wiring was too skinny, and caused things like the radar to cut out due to brownouts when too many things were drawing juice. Same would be true if a boat is wired for higher DC voltage (so less current). Not Jensen, but maybe a previous owner. Just examples of the screwy things that can happen. See if there is knob on invertor control somewhere with a dial that goes up to 11.
