Davits and hull thickness

Bart van Halteren2017-12-24 13:41 UTC
Hi all, just in case anyone is interested, I 'had to' have davits mounted to the beautiful stern of my Cal 39. I was sick and tired of hauling the engine and dinghy (which, granted, is a bit sizeable...). Some pics attached just to share. Then a question on hull thickness: does anyone know the hull thickness of a Cal 39 (structural and non-structural areas) and how that compares to other similar boats? I ask because on a non-structural part of the boat it seems pretty thin. All the best! Bart

Greetings on this Christmas Eve day, I don't have an answer on the hull thickness but I do have a question about your bimini and hope that you and others won't mind me piggy backing on your inquiry........ It looks to me like your bimini is attached to the stern rail and I have seen others mounted this way as well. I've been told by the folks up here who build these things that the stern rail on my Cal 2 34 is not strong enough to hold the bimini frame but I think they're full of it. Would you and others be willing to send me some pics as well possible design info on how you built yours and if there is some sort of extra reinforcement that needs to happen? My apologies if I'm stepping outside of protocol by not starting a new thread. Thanks a bunch and Happy Holidays to all. Faith S/V Sea Jewel Squalicum Harbor, PNW P.S. And just for the record I am also curious about the hull thickness. Hi Faith, I'll send some pics later when I'm back on the boat, but basically my bikini is mostly attached to the hull with some attachments to the stern rail only.
