2-27 Interior carpentry

Hi all. Have a 76 2-27 that is nearly ready from a long overhaul. I'm interested to know if any of you have laminated a natural wood surface onto the plastic laminate of the folding table? Second question is that I want to take advantage of what appear to be an extension of that bench/berth on the port side of the salon. I have what appear to be feet on both ends of the cabin, awaiting a (presumably convertible) insert that would support extra width for this berth.
