Whateva...Sorry if you found some posts boring or irrelevant. People who sail small Cals, made of FRP and powered by OB's and synthetic sails have so few maintenance problems we have extra time on our hands to think about pressing issues such as the survival of the sport and one of the main reasons Bill Lapworth built Cals the way he did, production line boats to race and win races for people of limited means. Participation in group sailing events in Marina del Rey is a fraction of what it was when I bought my boat in '96, which even then was a fraction of what it was when I first sailed in Marina del Rey in '73 on a Glen-L catamaran.
Jerry of Shpritz, Cal 24-1 #71, built from parts in a kit in '62. The original Cal.
I welcome your posts or greater relevance than mine.
PS: Our Venture-MacGregor Fleet, which no longer can boast a single active MacGregor Yacht, continues to thrive with something like 40 plus members plus crews, and approximately 15-20+ boats participating in each regatta, in PHRF, Cruiser A and Cruiser B divisions starting at three minute intervals, starting at 5:58 PM (when daylight savings resumes).
