RE: [Cal_Boats] Checking the Dreaded Beam on a Cal 29
The Cal 29s have the steel beam in them under the compression post. You need a bore scope to run up under the pan from the bilge or down from under the head. A fast look would be to look at the tabs in the storage locker from the salon.

Jerry, I do know that at least early on, Lapworth specified stainless steel for the part, but Jensen used galvanized to cut costs. I don’t know if this changed at any point. Also, I do not know which models have the beam. Fortunately, the Cal 25 does not. I can sell you a couple of those. Are you still having the problem with needing to log into the Cal_Boats web site? Subject: [Cal_Boats] Checking the Dreaded Beam on a Cal 29
If one is interested in purchasing a Cal 29, how does one go about checking the status of the "Dreaded Beam"? What equipment does one need, and how does one acess the beam to see it? There's a 2-29 on the market in Channel Islands. Seeing as the PO has replaced the chain plates etc. does it sound likely the beam is rusted-up?. Is the 29 more likely to have beamitis than other similar Cals? I've heard the older Cal 34's don't seem to have a problem with the rusted beam.
Thanks,
