Rubrail cleaning

Okay group, what's the best way to clean the vinyl rubrail on the typical Cal? It's on the hard. Also what is the best way to clean and polish a bronze prop? Without removing it. Finally a warm enough day, got the bottom sanded, maybe get it painted this week.Thx,David Dobbs Cal29 411

Hi, David. I use acetone on the rub rail. Does your rubrail chalk? Props, I do not know.

Charlie,I was hoping for a more non-toxic solution! We used to use trichloroethelyne by the 55 gal drum, ( why was it 55gal and not 50?) when I was in Uncle Sam's AF. Lox clean you know. That stuff is banned now. Of course we were supposed to use gloves, yeah, right, when you're dealing with small components. So it went.David

Mr. Clean magic eraser is the best think I have found. It makes a huge difference.

My Cal 20's 1967 rubrail was badly chalked and got white stuff all over
me. I used an abrasive pad to sand it down and then painted it with
vinyl buoy paint from Hamilton Marine. Can't recall which one I chose
(they had two). It has worked fairly well. It did not level as nicely
as paint or varnish but solved the chalking problem. That was maybe 10
years ago and I'm due for another coat.
