Coaming compartments

If you have coaming boards like we do on our 1967 Cal 36, Caliente, there may be drain holes for water getting in there that go right out under the board onto the cockpit seating deck, not into the hull. They have to be cleaned regularly to work properly. There is also a blower vent in our port "cubby". I am installing a little riser Rim for that as it is possible for dirt or water to enter that. No water enters our hull as the compartment has no other holes. If the bottom floor of the compartment is below the bottom of the coaming board it would be possible to use a small right angle drill to make drain holes, then seal edges of drilled holes with epoxy to keep water out of the laminate. I also added weep holes to the bottom lip of our companionway so it would drain from the trough to the bridgedeck. The holes in that piece are only in the wood, 1/4 " bit, I used a long bit to get that angle, and they don't show because they exit below the face of the wood. Then again seal the inner walls of the holes so they don't soak up. I used cetol and a qtip did the job. Helen Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
