Cal 40 in Need

Charlie Husar2018-05-02 01:45 UTC
Hi, all. I got the following from a friend in Reedville, VA. "Of note; there's that guy here in my boat yard that is attempting to resurrect an original Cal 40. He's just been diagnosed with heart issues and Parkinson's. Looks like that Cal 40 is going to go to the scrap yard." Take Care Charlie

Charlie, How far gone is the Cal 40? Any photos of it? Asking price? Thanks, Bruce Stirling

I can see it now, a bunch of crazed Cal 40 enthusiast, patching up an olde Cal 40 with bandages and bailing wire, and setting sail for the Panama Canal, and back up the central American Coast, Baja Bashing their way up to it's new home port somewhere on the west coast, where there is a mutiny over where it ends up, swords are drawn, planks are walked and the boat is scuttled in some tens of thousands foot trench beyond recovery, until a century later, when it is rediscovered, salvaged, and put in a museum. Maybe trucking it to it's new home port is a better idea? The dream lives. And your description of the repairs accurately describes my normal duct tape work. Even the sailing route was accurate. Randy, didn't you own Mariposa, the nicely restored Cal 29 until the hull gave out? Or was your boat lost at sea? Were you not the guy who was fortunately recovered from the sea following a mishap? You would be better suited to this job. I just can't stand the idea of a Cal 40 being shredded.

No Bruce, Randy has a fully functional Cal 29. You're thinking of Wilkes, who went off the deep end or the dark side, sold his bodacious rebuilt Cal 29 and bought a ...uughh!!...trawlerstinkpot. Bruce, didn't you own a bodacious Cal 28 Enterprise Class Cal Flat top? Gerald Sobel, owner of OG Cal 24-1, who is staring at Craigslist ads for bigger Cals, namely a Cal 33-1 and a Cal 34-III altho he knows he no longer has the mental or physical fortitude to sail one to Tahiti, Bora Bora, Fiji, or Bali, or around the buoys for that matter. He's getting out of bed in the morning challenged. On Friday, May 4, 2018, 9:25:29 AM PDT, Bruce Stirling br… [at] stirlinglaw.com [Cal_Boats] <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: The dream lives. I must of missed Charlies post or something. My boat is Out Patient, I am replacing steal beam, bulk heads, mast and rigging. Yes, that was me, I knocked overboard during an unintentional gybe when the preventer broke and rescued by search and rescue. Divorce cost me my Cal 28 and all boats for the immediate future. Trying to make a come back. Wilkes Cal 29 Mariposa was a nice looking boat. I gave my Cal 28 to a member of Seal 7, who lived on it at the Chula Vista Marina. The boat is no longer there, and the Seal 7 member departed the marina, but he reportedly left in a powerboat. I used to be able to see my boat on Google Earth, but it is no longer there.

Not sure how this happened, but one message comes across as me, Bruce Stirling, and the last, which is still me, came in as Captron84. Both are me. One must have been via cell phone.

Did we get off topic, lol. What about the boat? Price, condition, and contact info?I was just in reedville fishermen’s museum to look at a donated Cal. Not on Craigslist anymore. But it wasn’t a 40.
