It is going to bury the rail at 15 but you can just reef.
I do love it
It is roomy, sails well / is fun, and can sleep a family of 4 Comfortably but cruising in open water may be asking too much
I stay in puget sound and when the wind gets above 17 I don’t sail it although if I wanted to reef Heavily i probably could still manage. That’s just not my version of fun
In puget sound in the summer the problem is not enough wind more than too much
FYI: works good for crabbing too !

I furl or reef my 31 above 15 knots, but have sailed in 25 with gusts to 35 with a double reefed main and furled jib.

Harleigh,I agree, my 29 likes to be on her feet, sails fastest when balanced. Shorten sail early and keep her upright. That heeled over stuff is for Jboats, not Lapworth designed Cals.David Cal29 411
