CAL 25 Hoisting Eye Installation

dp… [at] yahoo.com2018-07-06 20:48 UTC
Hey there, Does anyone have any experience with the placement/ location and installation of a single point hoisting eye for an early CAL 25? I would like to have one installed but need info on where to install it. All feedback is greatly appreciated Thank you Dave

I dont think I've seen that and dont think thats possible... You can, however, use a single point hoist with an H frame and straps.. Dave, probably not possible, too much weight for a single point lift. All yards I have seen use 2 lifting straps, fore and aft. The hull needs to be supported from under while either launching or retrieving.David, Cal29 411 On Friday, July 6, 2018, 3:48:46 PM CDT, dp… [at] yahoo.com [Cal_Boats] <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: Hey there, Does anyone have any experience with the placement/ location and installation of a single point hoisting eye for an early CAL 25? Dave, I’m with David on this one. A Cal 25 cannot have a hoisting eye. The lead molded slug is dropped into the molded keel, and then some polyester and glass cloth is placed over and around it. No lifting strength there. Any attempt to attach and use an eye would tear the lead right out of the boat. By the way, on a different question, the imprint hull IDs on the exterior starboard stern of the boats started in late 1972. For earlier boats, you should find the hull number sort of glassed into the interior starboard stern. Hi Everyone, Thank you all for your input. I've heard it's been done. My understanding is that a hole is drilled from the bilge through the keel and a rod is inserted the length and bolted with a load plate on the underside of the keel. With this set-up the load bearing capability should be adequate. Placement of the drill point is everything. Thanks PS: Charlie, I've looked on both quarters but didn't see anything. I'll keep looking. Thanks

Charlie,It was a thrill finding my hull number, 411, just where the list said it would be, glassed in the starboard lazzerette. I applied to the DNR for a corrected hull number.
