Jerry, I sure wish I could get a hold of a copy of some of the National Geographic "Specials" featuring the voyages of Irving and Exy Johnson, especially "YANKEE sails across Europe" about traversing Europe via canals in their 50' Ketch. Best part was the trip through a water "tunnel" with inches to spare between the granite walls and YANKEE's rub rails! The tunnel was dark and Irving positioned crew members along the rail with flashlights calling out the clearances (1", 2", 1/2", TOUCH!, 2", 4", etc.) BLOCKBUSTER used to be great! I rented a couple of Warren Miller sailing films there, I loved his relaxed, style of narration even as he described his LASER blowing off the roof of his car! I also found a few other great Sailing Films. The fellow who sailed along side me said he was a ten year old when Robin left. And I guess Robin was...16? I still have my copy of the movie "The Dove", (no, not interested in selling!) and enjoy watching it periodically, I actually saw it originally in the theater during it's initial release. My Dad and I had a great Father-Son night out, big thrill for an 11 year-old! (I think that was my age at the time, I've forgotten when the movie was in theaters?) I suspect the RANGER 23 was used due to the producers not being able to find an old LAPWORTH 24, more so than any marketing decision by Bangor-Punta, plus a lot of movie goers would never recognize the substitution. (of course I did!). Still a GREAT film! Directed by Gregory Peck, if I recall? Thanks Greg! I couldn't remember the class name, just that she was 33' and built by Allied. Interesting to read in the book "DOVE" about Robin Graham travelling to upstate New York in a snowstorm to see the boat under construction, quite different from the Tropics!
