My experience with my 2-39 (San Juan islands and around Vancouver Island, but the boat has been to Mexico Hawaii and AK): Brand. Mine is vertical so I can’t give you advice on horizontal models Chain: yes longer. One great advantage to a windlass is going all chain. Your size and anchor seem about right to me. Cleats: I use the stock cleats. I think your idea of a chain stopper on deck is a good one and with this I would think your manual method of raising the rode would be solved. Pull direct. I have a heavier anchor and 5/16” chain and can do that if I have to. A chain stopper would really help. Battery or cables: I have cables and I have no issues. That said I have 400+ amp hours and large marine cable. Stop by the next time you make it up San Juan island way. Tom Crane Island
