Cal 39s

Until last year I was partners in SPINDRIFT, Cal 39-2 (#105) 1980, San Francisco CA. Somebody asked about photos of the Cal 39. Lots of them on the on-line general log (http://cal39ii.blogspot.com/)and maintenance log (http://cal-39-2-maintenance-logs.blogspot.com/) for Spindrift, which I maintained for five years. ... I'm now in Oriental NC on my next boat, ALIZEE, a Cabo Rico 36 (#2) 2001, preparing to sail to the Bahamas in two weeks. ... But I do miss the Cal 39-2. Fair winds, James Williams

Hi James I have been reading your Cal 39 Blog spots, please don't delete them!! Or can I save them somewhere else? I do have a question for you as I am slowly refitting my 1983 Cal 39. On my to do list is adding autohelm. Do you recall if the Linear Drive unit was the type I short unit or the Type II short unit with higher weight limit? Also in the picture on your blog (if have anymore pictures that would be great) did you mount the linear drive on the vertical bulkhead or on the horizontal shelf? The recent Cal 39 posts got me thinking I should share a couple of files for the Cal 39-iv (Hunt), in case anyone else has one and needs the files - or just wants to see the sailplan and interior layout. My boat (Makana, ex-Novia) new to me, is getting a standing rig update - all new rod. Apparently you should do mast maintenance more frequently than every 20-30 years. Sure do like the look of the earlier Cal 39s, especially the foresail negligee! Beautiful. I got sail envy Eric SV Makana Lying Alameda [image: image.png]
