Cal 27 Window rebuild?
pc… [at] q.com2019-01-09 23:29 UTC
Hi All,
I have a 1972 Cal 27 poptop and the fixed windows have given up. I need to pull and do a rebuild soon. Does anyone have a source for or suggestions for parts? I'm assuming that I will need all new pliable parts.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Paul,
Google “Mark Plastics”. He built the original fixed ports for you boat, and has been fabulous to deal with, as attested by lists for the 25 years I have been on the list. My windows were odd shaped because of a PO, and I templated the opening following his directions. The replacement fit perfectly. Now, 20 years later, I need to follow my own advice and replace them again, as the acrylic is starting to craze.

fred, catalina yachts has an authorized parts company called Catalina Direct. they sell a kit that has outside gasket, sealant, and the inside trim material for the inside track if your windows have aluminum double channel frames. i get the impression that one company made windows for everybody. :))

I second the Mark's Plastics recommendations. Mark can be hard to get a
hold of but once you do he's right there through the whole process. My
1975 Cal 2 34 had her original windows, 1 of which was completely
cracked and the other 3 badly crazed. I got on the phone with Mark while
standing in my boat and he walked me through taking the measurements,
what to look for with any gaps and precision around corners, etc. Then
we talked about various options and I decided to go with the tempered
glass even tho it was a bit more money.
He got them done in 2 weeks, (I bought all 4 at once as he suggested,
mostly to save money on shipping), shipped them up to me and I was
really impressed with how well they were packed and how beautiful the
windows were/are. He recommended I call him when I was ready to install
and put 2 in at a time, (which I did). I used the caulking he sold along
with the windows and all went without a hitch...amazing...one of the
easiest repair jobs I've done on my boat!
He's located in Corona, CA and his phone number is 951-735-7705. Give
him a call. He's wonderful.

John,
I saw that too and was wondering the same thing.
Has anyone used/tried the Catalina kits on Cal windows?

Faith,
Thank you! I emailed him last night after the first suggestion. I'll give him a while to answer before I call. It is great to hear from people who have used him!

Hi Paul,
You are most welcome. Calling him early in the morning is the best way
to get a hold of him as that's when he's in the office. Don't know how
quickly he responds to email as I never went that route with him.
However the connection happens you'll be glad you went with him.
Enjoy your new windows....Happy Sailing,
Faith

Yep. In with Faith. I used to buy Cal 25 window sets 5 at a time from Mark Heacox in Corona. Even visited his place once when I was businessing on the West Coast. Quite a guy, quite an operation (homey?). Templates for almost everything.
