My understanding is that the Cal 39 had the inner forestry for flying a stay sail inside a spinnaker. Not sure if the rig was designed for a heavy weather jib- though I’ve wondered.

I have a staysail for my 29, have a block on deck. I assume the spare jib halyard would have been used to hoist it. I have never used it. Original owner raced the boat in Detroit with some success. I used to crew on an Erickson 35 and we got a half knot of speed from the staysail.David Dobbs Cal29 411
