I do not have the polars you want but might have some for a similar boat. https://L-36.com/polar_polars.php <https://l-36.com/polar_polars.php> Allen On Mon, Sep 9, 2019 at 11:47 AM 'Urbanski, Steven J.' st… [at] ul.com [Cal_Boats] <Ca… [at] yahoogroups.com> wrote: > > > Looking for these (or a similar boat). > > > > Thank you. > > > > Steve Urbanski > > CAL 35 MKII #64 > > “Sarah Bernadette” > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > . > > . > > > > This e-mail may contain privileged or confidential information. Maybe you guys who race can tell me: how much of the accuracy of polars is based on just the boat design, and how much on things like sail design & quality, running rigging configuration, sail trim, and other boat-specific issues? In other words, how transferable from one vessel to another are they? Chris Campbell

Chris, My website has a series of articles on measuring your boats upwind target speed, which is one thing that you get from polars. There is also a calculator that will give you a pretty good set of polars for various wind conditions. I have studied many boats and it works well across a very wide range of boats. Downwind is a whole other game. Boat design there makes a huge difference. Basically, does the boat surf or not. Some boats have two modes, one for light winds where they are displacement, and one for higher winds where the target wind angle is wide of DDW and the boat surfs. I will give you the link but I must warn you that I doubt anybody uses it as it gets very technical. I used it to set my targets and I usually win so I personally recommend it ;-) This years results: Series 1 . Tied on points but lost the tie breaker = 2nd. Series 2 . Missed the series because I cut my finger nearly in half. = DNC Series 3 . Five races, five first place finishes. = 1st https://L-36.com/polars.php <https://l-36.com/polars.php> Allen On Wed, Sep 11, 2019 at 8:44 AM ccampbell <cc… [at] lsnm.org> wrote: > Maybe you guys who race can tell me: how much of the accuracy of polars > is based on just the boat design, and how much on things like sail > design & quality, running rigging configuration, sail trim, and other > boat-specific issues?
