hull number
jenweberfuller2007-05-14 01:50
We are about 12 hours from launching our "new" boat..a 68 Cal 34!
She's in great condition. How do you find the hull number on a boat
of this vintage? Also does anyone know the best way to add a bow
anchor roller assembly to this boat?
LOVE THE SITE..(am having a little trouble reading/following the
threads, though, ..maybe I'm a neophyte yahoo user also..any pointers?)
THANKS!

Hi. Are you Jen? We are a bunch of friendly first namers here.
CONGRATS on the boat. A good one. Where are you located?
For a 68, it might be tough. Try looking inside the back of the stern.
Might have gotten painted over though. Also could look under drawers
and other parts. Sometimes the Jensen workers tracked hull parts that
way. How does the registration number on the title read?
Cheers
Charlie

Hi, I am the owner of a 1967 Cal 34, on my boat the hull number is on the inside of the transom on the starboard side... Mine is number 43, so I would think that yours would still be a two digit number. Hope that helps you.
Cheers,
Robert

there is a cal 28-2 that i'm looking to purchase. it has a hull number that is very faded. especially the beginning letters and numbers on the left side if someone could post their hull numbers i can eliminate some of the guess work, and contact the owner. thanks

CAL numbers after 1974 look like this: CAB10018M78C
CAB is for Cal
Next is a letter or number code for the boat mode; 1 is for Cal39-2; E
is for Cal29; don't know what goes with Cal 28
Next 4 gives the hull number (18 in example)
M is for model year
78 is the year
C is the model year month; A = August, B = Sept., C = October, etc.
Hope this helps

duane, the best that i can make out i have 12 digits. my model is apparently D, so first four digits are CABD. it has the last 4 numbers as G586 where according to what you said it should be 5G86. that leaves me four digits in the middle for hull id

Will you name her the Sloop John B ? :- ]
On an off shot, some of the parts have the hull number written on them (it keeps the pieces of a boat together at the factory). Maybe under the galley drawers or something like that. Also the earlier boats had the hull number glassed into the starboard internal transom. Don’t know if they carried that forward into the external HIN (Hull Identification Number) era that began in 1973 or so.
Take Care

Ha...Following this thread I decided to decided to decode my hull #. My
registration, and that of two PO's, have the boat as 1980. Turns out it was
built in August of 81. That said, I think I will leave well enough alone
rather than get embroiled in a bureaucratic quagmire.
